FAQs

Jansen Hospice FAQs

Hospice care is a specialized approach to end-of-life care focused on comfort, pain management, and quality of life for patients with a terminal diagnosis and a life expectancy of six months or less. Jansen provides hospice care, palliative care, and bereavement support, each designed to meet patients and families at a different stage of serious illness.

Care is delivered by an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and volunteers, with on-call nursing available 24 hours a day. Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care works in affiliation with NewYork-Presbyterian/Westchester Hospital and is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance plans. Key Takeaways

Hospice care is not about giving up; it is a deliberate choice to prioritize comfort, dignity, and quality of life for a person with a life-limiting illness.
Families should not wait for a crisis to call, because earlier enrollment gives patients and caregivers more time to benefit from the full range of services.
Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance plans cover hospice care, and Jansen serves patients regardless of their ability to pay.
Anyone, including family members, can make the first call to Jansen; a formal physician referral is not required to begin the conversation.

Jansen made an unbearable experience somewhat bearable. My wife of 52 years went into hospice at home on August 4 and died on August 29 from metastatic breast cancer. The moment we agreed with the doctors to end chemo and move to hospice, Jansen took over. Social Worker Deb Hanley organized everything. Nurse Marcia Roberts was available at all times and made sure that we had all the necessary medicines and equipment before we knew that we needed them. The aides who came to our home every day were all both kind and competent. I had never heard of Jansen before the staff at Lawrence Hospital introduced us. I do not know how to say thank you any better than writing this 5-star review.
