Jansen Hospice and Palliative Care's professionally trained volunteers are often called the heart of the organization and are a crucial part of the hospice team. They give the gift of their time to those in need, and there is no greater gift.

There are two main types of Jansen volunteers: Patient Care Volunteers and Administrative Volunteers.

PATIENT CARE Volunteers

Patient care volunteers are available to help our patients and their families by lending a hand and being a friendly face when visiting. They serve as integral members of our interdisciplinary hospice team and work in collaboration with the other team members. In addition to helping with daily tasks, they provide vital support and companionship.  Some examples in which patient care volunteers help are:  grocery shopping, transportation to doctor's appointments, reading, and providing respite for the primary caregiver.

All patient care volunteers undergo an intensive 8-week training session led by Didi Marcal, our Volunteer and Bereavement Coordinator.

In addition to the many tasks listed above, patient care volunteers can also undertake additional training to become involved with our Pet Therapy program and our 11th Hour program.

Pet Therapy volunteers have an animal (dog, cat, bunny, horse, etc.) who accompanies them on visits to the patient and their family.

11th Hour volunteers stay with an actively dying patient, providing emotional support to the patient and their family.

    ADMINISTRATIVE Volunteers

Administrative Volunteers assist with a variety of tasks, such as:

Bereavement Service Projects - assist with correspondence to families

Fundraising and Marketing Projects - help with mailings, provide assistance at special events, provide clerical assistance

Marketing/Public Relations - help maintain press clipping books, assist with special projects
